grunge steamroller and a tribute to layne staley
this isn't just a solo record by the alice in chains guitarist. "degradation trip" is a monolith recorded by a supergroup every heavy music fan dreams of. jerry cantrell invited an otherworldly rhythm section: mike bordin (faith no more) on drums and robert trujillo (then suicidal tendencies/ozzy, soon after metallica) on bass. you can hear the weight – the sound is thick, sticky, and powerful.
the album was released in the shadow of tragedy – shortly before the premiere, layne staley passed away, and the record is dedicated to him. tracks like "anger rising" or "angel eyes" are absolute classics of dark rock.
here we have a release from music on vinyl (2017). that means one thing: audiophile quality, quiet wax, and massive dynamics. solid 180 grams. important note for collectors: this specific copy plays perfectly and includes the beautiful gatefold sleeve, but the 4-page insert is missing (lost in action). hence the lower price, but the music still sounds like a million bucks.
