An alien on vinyl. A concept album about learning the simple life.
“Simple Life” is a concept album by ŻYŃY, the alias of Tomek Woźniak: guitarist, producer and turntablist. Its hero is Milo, an alien who knows neither time nor emotions. He lands on Earth, collides with our reality and slowly learns to enjoy ordinary, everyday moments. Along the way he goes from doubting his own identity to discovering entirely new, thoroughly human feelings. The story ends without a resolution, and you do not need to know it to enjoy the record.
Musically it is “jazztronica”, as the artist likes to call it. A club vibe and house beats meet echoes of the American IDM scene and the acoustic sound of real instruments. You will hear nods to the 1990s, as well as nu jazz, indie and psychedelic rock. “Loose It” is a hypnotic flight with a wink to DJ Rashad, “Yorugakuru” sounds nocturnal and nostalgic, and “Inside My Head” is intimate and driven by drums. Guests: Kacper Grzanka (trumpet), Seye Adelekan (a regular collaborator of Gorillaz), Kacper Krupa (Łona/Konieczny/Krupa, Siema Ziemia) and Artur Szalsza (bass, known from the Klawo crew).
The vinyl edition was prepared by Polvinyl: 12" LP, 140g, black vinyl, DMM pressing, edition of 200 copies. Single sleeve, CMYK 4/0 print, artwork by Paulina Gałka, plain white inner sleeve, labels printed in CMYK 4/0. The material was premastered for vinyl, and the artist heard it on a digital test press before the physical record arrived. His impression: “I heard things I had not heard before.”
Who is ŻYŃY? A graduate of jazz guitar at the Academy of Music in Poznań, he also studied at Saint Louis College of Music in Rome. His releases include “Origins” (self-release), “Falling in Blue” (U Know Me Records), “All Is Fine” and “Beautiful Lies”.
