ŻYŃY, “Simple Life”: an alien who landed on vinyl

A black disc looks like a flying saucer, so there is hardly a better vehicle for Milo, the hero of ŻYŃY’s new album. Milo is an alien who knows neither time nor emotions. He lands on Earth and learns about life, including its harder sides, until he finds joy in simple, everyday moments. Musically it is “jazztronica”: a club vibe and house beats meet echoes of the American IDM scene and live instruments. Behind the alias ŻYŃY stands Tomek Woźniak: guitarist, producer and turntablist.
The story ends without a resolution, and you do not need to know it to enjoy the record. In ŻYŃY’s own words: “If you do not know this story and simply let it go, listen to the record, you can still experience it your own way.” Guests on the album include Kacper Grzanka (trumpet), Seye Adelekan (a regular collaborator of Gorillaz) and Artur Szalsza (bass).

Why vinyl: an album needs closure
ŻYŃY is a man of whole albums: “An old-fashioned approach: I love albums, I listen to whole albums rather than playlists.” That is why he wanted it on vinyl: “I wanted to have at least one of these vinyls. Maybe there will be more. We will see.” The edition was produced by Polvinyl. The material was premastered for vinyl, and the artist heard it on a digital test press before the physical record arrived. His impression: “I heard things I had not heard before.”
